The event has been held for more than forty years and consists of a race in which five boats participate. The race takes place starting in front of the Bank of Italy building, near the Rialto Bridge. The turn of the paletto (flying buoy) is near the mouth of Rio di San Polo. Once the passage is made, it is back towards Rialto.
Besides the actual race, the "Regata delle Befane" also conquers because of the many rituals and events connected to it: the dressing of the crones at the headquarters of the Reale Società Canottieri Bucintoro at the Magazzini del Sale in Zattere; the departure of the water parade; the arrival at Rialto with musical performance and display of Rubelli's giant stocking; the presentation of the crones to the public and the drawing of water numbers; and the prize-giving and sweets for the little ones at Riva del Vin.
Epiphany Day is also an opportunity to admire the spectacle of the Clock Tower in St. Mark's Square. At the stroke of each hour, it is possible to watch the procession of four wooden figures (an angel and the three Magi), which make mechanical movements as they come in the vicinity of the Madonna.
In Malmocco, in the former amusement park area, we can participate in the Panevin. In the late afternoon there will be the characteristic bonfire with the puppet placed on top of the pile of wood and straw. As per tradition there will be typical Venetian products of the Christmas season.
